RFID identification of assets for servicing & maintenance

A high growth solution for Ramp RFID is the identification of rotatable parts for servicing and maintenance purposes, primarily in rail and aviation.

It is an ideal use of UHF Gen 2 RFID technology as assets are often difficult to identify any other way (via barcode or human readable identification).

In addition RFID provides the ability to automatically determine if parts require maintenance or replacement as assets or parts move past a reader at the entry to a depot. Handheld readers can also be used.

This allows for automation of the monitoring process, removing any room for human error and reducing labour cost.

Very long range passive UHF Gen 2 RFID

In tests done this past week at Ramp RFID Solutions (www.ramp.com.au) we were reading passive tags over 15m (on and off metal) using the new CS203 integrated reader from CSL. We read a maximum of 35m in fact with the new Omni-ID Ultra and BAP tags.

The CS203 is just over $1,000 and is approximately 30cm x 30cm. It is ruggedized and simple to integrate. Even better is that it uses POE so installation is simple and easy.

We have developed a very neat people tracking application using the Power P BAP tag and a single CS203 located in the ceiling at checkpoints throughout a hospital / work place / casino / retail shop.
The Power P card is credit card size (including thickness) and can be left in the wallet (or worn around the neck.)

My first blog!

Hi there. Today I wanted to briefly mention a new RFID application we are working on at Ramp RFID Solutions (www.ramp.com.au). As a reseller and integrator for Identec Solutions, we are using the IQ32T response tags - with an external temperature sensor - in the forming of pre-cast concrete. Basically the tags are placed on top of the pre-cast mould and the readers request the temperature every few seconds. We will use an embedded PC which is connected to the reader via a serial to ethernet converter. Our IQ software then filters the reads and generates an output, in this case a Modbus TCP output, for the PLC to pick up. Neat and simple yet effective!
